The first time I read this book was in a bookstore where I fought valiantly against the urge to cry copiously. Yesterday, during both readings of my daughter’s newly arrived copy, I found my voice breaking and tears starting. In simple prose and spare but beautiful drawings, this book does a simply wonderful job of summing up the complexities of a mother’s love for her daughter. I can’t think of another book that more perfectly expresses the love I feel for my little girl. I love how the book begins with the newborn and ends with the newborn as an old woman. It led to a discussion with my daughter of how I was once a baby in my own mother’s arms and how I have grown to have a daughter of my own. The book does such a lovely job of describing this circle of life. Just thinking about it brings tears to my eyes. I highly recommend this for any mother of a daughter–no matter how young or old your little girl.
this book is precious and it’s so perfect for the new mother of a baby girl! what a great gift and what a great story to read over and over again, but beware, it may bring a tear to your eye! this book is to the baby girl, what “forever” is to the baby boy. i highly recommend it and will be ordering more as gifts to my girlfrieds!
This book makes me teary eyed everytime I read it to my daughter. With child like lines indicating all the grown up emotions and feelings (good and bad) a young daughter will feel later in life as a woman, this book is a must have for all moms of daughters. When I read this book to my little girl it reminds me to take time out to enjoy this time because “someday” it will be gone. You have just got to buy this book!
This book is classic, simple and beautifully written, The text is short so it is very easy to read to babies and children. The sentiment it exxpresses is beautiful and it brings tears to my eyes everytime I read it. It is a must have for any mother!
I got this to read to my daughter while she was still in utero because I was brought to tears as I stood reading it in the bookstore. It is such a beautiful story. I hope she will read it to her daughter someday!
